Celebrating Creativity and Connection

On December 16, 2024, the Maison Berthe Morisot in Bougival is hosting a landmark reception to mark its recent opening. This special event welcomes officials from the French government, the Île-de-France region, the Department of Yvelines, Versailles Grand Parc, and the Mayor of Bougival. Adding to its prestige, the reception is held under the exceptional patronage of Julie and Yves Rouart, descendants of Berthe Morisot.

The highlight of the event is the unveiling of the inaugural exhibition, Scottish Impressions: The Road From Glasgow to Bougival, co-produced by The Cornelius Arts Foundation (TCAF) and Impactoverse.

This extraordinary exhibition celebrates two themes close to Berthe Morisot’s heart, children and nature, through an artistic dialogue between France and Scotland. It also exemplifies TCAF’s Engagement Strategy, weaving together the curating of memorable Experiences and innovative Experimentation, all in pursuit of deeper cultural and societal impact.

An Artistic Bridge Between Nations

The exhibition showcases a curated selection of Berthe Morisot’s works alongside original pieces from the Fleming Collection. The Scottish works, created by artists of the Girls & Boys of Glasgow movement, highlight the influence of Impressionism and its enduring legacy across borders. Inspired by Corot and the Impressionists, these Scottish artists explored innovative techniques and themes that resonate with Morisot’s own work and have had left a significant impact on Scottish art history.

Visitors are invited to witness the convergence of French and Scottish creativity, exploring how Impressionism transcended geographical boundaries to shape artistic landscapes worldwide.

Experience the Inspiration

The exhibition invites visitors on a multi-sensory journey:

  • A profound immersion in stunning artworks and the captivating narratives they reveal.

  • The discovery of a little-known artistic dialogue between Berthe Morisot’s works and those of her Scottish contemporaries.

  • A specially curated soundtrack by Toccata Classics, featuring piano compositions by Scottish composers Helen Hopekirk and Ronald Stevenson, inspired by traditional Scottish folk tunes and imbued with Impressionist influences.

Beyond the Exhibition: A Journey of Well-Being and Education

This exhibition is more than a celebration of Impressionist art; it serves as the launchpad for TCAF’s pioneering R&D programme at Ginkgo lab., which intertwines creativitynaturewell-being, and innovation to foster transformative societal impact.

  • Berthe’s Brush at Bougival (BBB): Developed by The Cornelius Arts Foundation in collaboration with Impactoverse, this digital educational game immerses players in a virtual recreation of the Maison Berthe Morisot and the  Ginkgo lab. park. More than a game, it is a serious learning tool designed to encourage artistic expression while promoting mental well-being. Players are also invited to log their mood at various points, integrating their emotional journey into the broader research framework.

  • A Focus on Mental Health: This initiative forms part of TCAF’s broader research agenda, exploring the positive impact of art and nature on mental well-being, with a particular focus on children. By blending immersive experiences with scientific inquiry, the programme aspires to provide actionable insights into how creativity and nature can serve as tools for emotional resilience and holistic health.

This R&D initiative underscores TCAF’s commitment to pushing boundaries, advancing knowledge, and delivering practical solutions at the intersection of culture and well-being.
