Graham Henderson is a qualified solicitor, who formerly worked as a commercial litigation lawyer at Clifford Chance. From 2003-2014 he was full-time Chief Executive of Poet in the City, a London-based poetry charity promoting a love of poetry aimed at new audiences, and running about 25 events per year specializing in large-scale live events and of funding educational work, in particular the placing of poets in schools.

He had been involved since 2007 in a campaign to create an Anglo-French cultural centre at 8 Royal College Street in Camden, the house formerly occupied by the French poets Arthur Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine, during their celebrated and stormy sojourn in London in 1873. In 2014, he was appointed Chief Executive of The Rimbaud and Verlaine Foundation, which he was instrumental in setting up.
